a ny times about a town in alabama who has an enmourous collection of well designed, aesthically important buildings...the best thing about it, is Hale County, where the town is located, has students beg, borrow and scrounge material to make housing for the poorest people, this was the county that Agee and Walkins wrote about, and the grinding poverty has only really gotten worse...here is a qoute:
students identified the poorest of the poor, and built them modest dwellings. Materials were rudimentary - whatever they could beg or borrow - and so the students made their mark with quirky details: a window inserted on a 30-degree angle, a concrete wall studded with soda bottles to let bits of light through. One house has walls made of car tires; another is made of hay bales; yet another of stacks of carpet tiles.

The story qoutes GEhry as a source, but aside from the late 80s work w. fencign and steel, it seems closer of course to Venturi, who keeps being over looked as a source; and Shingurua Ban; in that updating of found sources.

I like this b/c
1) the colours (the coulour of the milk container, the cabinets, the kraft container, etc provide an explicit themeatic linking
2) the size (8x10) is somewhere b/w looking too large and being too cutely small.
3) i like the flith,
I dont like this b/c
1) it is almost slumming, playing against a lower class.
2) the filth seems too cute, too obvious, an intensely self aware parody of his own qoutidion tendencies...
