Marie Antoinette. A tragedy about the capriciousness of wealth, about the markets rise and fall, the problematics of constructing an aesthetic of luxury, and the overwhelming power of visual sophistication esp. for young girls (in fact the film is also profoundly, intensely autobiographical, which ads a layer of the ennui, of the weltschermz and all of those other chic european words--watch it with the leopard.

Maybe Imitation of Life, in the sense that I suspect it's politics, and the desires that surround those politics are more cack handed, less subtle, and more about the status quo then i suspected--i love it so much, plus the weird incesty subplot with steve is kind of edgy/
