i have read alot about the Pussy Riot situation in Russia--and i have been thinking alot about it. i have four thoughts. the link goes to an article about the connections b/w putin's government and the orthodox church--pussy riot's protest intended to show these similarties, and so ironically, it might be a wedge for religious freedom in russia. 2) i think more and more the aesthetics of protest work when one subject or one idea is being broadcast--narrowness of focus seems to increase the efficacy. 3. i think the madonna/patti smith/bjork is earnest, but i think they might not knwo exactly what is going on, and re:madonna, is v. much using the pussy riot people as a way of reentrenching her radicalism. 4. i do worry about these eloquent women and their rship to the state, and wonder if they are about to move to the west.
