so norman mailer says some nasty things about the nyt book critic, nasty stuff that hates her as a woman and as someone with japanese heritage...and he claims she is harder then him because of his butch male posturing.

three questions
1) norman mailer hating women is a non starter--hes stabbed at least one wife, he has hit several girlfriends, his books are more about men then women, men in danger, men in moral crisis, men w/o women. of course he hates women. do we cut him off at the knees about this?
2) she is harder i think on novels from white men, i dont know what to do about this, i think she hasa critical blind spot to the great american novel (i will have to drag out what she has hatcheted to death, this may be proven untrue)--so mailer gets a point for that...but every critic has a blind spot.
3) i think she has a well deserved reputation as tough, but if she was a man, that would be tough and fair--how much her reputation towards bitchiness comes from her having a vuvla?
