at the Pompideous show about La Art, post war, two major works fell to the ground and shattered. there is much pissing b/w galleries at hos responsible, but this causes great sadness, on a couple of levels, first, one of my favourite works by one of themore under rated american colourfield sculptors is kaput, and it means that it is less likely for this show to travel.

Really liked the photo of the Kauffman, though head-on, it doesn't show it to best advantage. Though the piece was severely damaged, it will rise again, phoenix-like, from its plexiglas shards. Craig had the remains shipped to the studio of Eric Johnson (http://www.ericwjohnson.net/) where Eric and I built a plug inside the original from which a limited edition will be vacuformed.
The fault for the piece falling from the wall in Paris does not lie with the Pompidou. The entire piece hung from a really pathetic plex cleat that was cemented to the upper edge of the sculpture. That it hadn't fallen years ago is the real marvel, not some malfeasance by the French.
Craig has been working at Eric's studio on a new body of work this year(2007-8), and all will have a much better system for securing them to walls around the world.
