The Untitled Image Folder project consists of every image that I right clicked and saved, for the year of 2007, excepting pornography, divided by colour. Each colour moves forward in a digital slide show shown on a digital picture frame , and then begins again, as a constant loop.

Living in a culture of constant image creation and dissemination, means that the creation of taxonomies becomes ad-hoc and immediate. To be part of a digital world, with the Internet resting more and more on photos and other images, means that trading visual information becomes part of a social life and a sorting of identities (esp. in terms of social networking sites like Flickr or Facebook or the creation of blogs)

Even without the social aspect, most people who surf have a folder on their desk of miscellaneous images, stuff they found visually arresting, or funny, or erotic or the like. I wanted to figure out how to formalize and by formalizing, domesticate this instinct. By dividing the work into colours, it is to concentrate on batches of images, to make a formal and processed narrative out of the accidental daily creation of surfing and blogging.

Also because colour is in our culture often thought of as only decorative or cosmetic, allow for the images to flow with little viewer intervention. By placing it on a dresser, and by using a digital picture frame, an internet full of mavericks become branded and placed in a paddock. The picture frame, once intended for pictures of family and friends, now contain images unsourced, untitled, but firmly as part of a quotidian process.

That process is also vital, to push an entire years of consumption, into a presentation that lasts a little over an hour, indicates a future where information is becoming more and more condensed. That it contains my images, means that identity can be constructed, that the patterns of my looking, of my obsessions, and as an artist/curator, my work, only through my information consumption. The combination of object based and process based work, using formal taxonomies, with autobiography, attempts to contextualize this new information age.

I want to put it in the Plus 15 system, because I want it to be part of other people’s work and recreation life. To stop, and watch the images for a while, as a sort of home made tonic in cure of the more corporate, the more controlled and less formal work. I want them to find patterns in the images, to enjoy the work a little, and then to remember it in their mind’s eye. I want it to be an interior, personal, mirror to the larger walks and meaning seeking that we do in the city every day.
