Since Neil Tennant is there, let's remember something he said in an interview once. It's important to hate pop music to make great pop music.
It's important that people be bored by art. That's what keeps art interesting.
You go to a thrift store. 90% of the clothes there are horrible and manky. But if you persist, you just know that there's one garment somewhere which is going to change your life.
You need to be bored with sex (those long stretches of boredom between orgasm and the next tingle) to get interested in sex again. Oh wow, this!
Art is junk-treasure you can ransack for ideas-pleasure. But pleasure can never be guaranteed.
Last night I went to five gallery openings in Kreuzberg and saw only boring work. Then I came home, went online, and read an essay about 80s conceptual pop band Sudden Sway and got extremely excited, immediately planning to make their career into a West End musical.
Who knows from which direction the tiger of excitement will pounce out at your boredom, tearing it to pieces? All we can say is that it probably will happen.

i was helping on a hutterite farm when i was 14, for a couple of weeks, good neighbour thing (this was when i was away at school)
and after the evenings work this young fellow pulled me aside and said, i need to show you something, so he pulled me to his room,: and started taking his braces down and his shirt off i was like dude, yr attractive and all but not now and he had a rolling stones t shirt on he then proceeded to show me his radio, and headphones
twp62yo: I once delivered pizza to a house full of Hutterite guys (all between 18 an 24 or so) who had left whatever colony, sitting around watching porn together. There were about 10 of them in a very small room. IT WAS NOT HOTT.

oryx and crake
for it: the last novel i liked by hers was handmaids, i like it when sh is bitter and angry, i agree with her postions on sci and tech, the aspergers angle touches me on a personal level, it has gotten good press.
agaisnt it: i usually do not like her prose, it seems over the top,she has expressed contempt for sf before, i am not sure i will like the charachters, when has she not gotten good press.

thot he was from la
Walton Ford, with his illustrative style, and sense of colour would seem to be from la, working out of long island his work is informed by both ethnographic and zoological practice from the 18th and 19th Century. He then takes those, and tweaks them with elements of modern power politics.
Think of english explorer Richard Burton, who is name checked in the painting Dirty Dick Burton's Aide de Camp- who played gr8 colonial tourist, doing studies of mens cock size based on race, faking his way into mecca, translating both the koran and the arabian nights- that strange mix between the holy and the blasphemous is a ready metonymy for larger post colonial excercises both at home and abroad.
The monkey in art history terms is used to symbolize whoring, infiedilty, and in jungian symbolism our baser animal selves-to have a monkey portayed in a zoological style, and titled venucalarly, is to suggest that all of europes adventures were nothing more then slutting and beshitting through history.

a dubious if not downright slutty reputation.
atwood on sf, new york times by the way of ew
ok atwoods a snob, but she is talking of reputation, an aspect of interior vs exterior which is one of her major themes. the reviews (including a v. good one by oliver morton at ew) says this is a messy, confused and intellectual take on the shiny apocolypse, as opposed to a handmaids tale, which was high lit, was never sf, was always denied by the authour as sf.
i for one am looking forwards to this new atwood, one who deigns to fall into the muck.
i love atwood but she always seemed to be ivory tower.
also, playoff beards are fucking hot.

three am tenderness with bryan- i dont know what i want to do with myself, why am i writing little poems, and art crit when the world is starving. i am wotking for other people, my review work is not directed enough.
im smart and i think academically, so why is the academia so hard for me.
maybe im not smart, i dont think im smart, but people keep telling me i am.
aaron wants to see my poems, and thats nonesense, i cant see myself showing them, but i will, because i suck up praise like a vampire.
what is good about my poetry i think, is how i mix the high and low, like the poem below-which is the first ive written about kevin, and im not sure is good, or i think has problems, when i show bryan my poems he has all these pretty words of praise.
we took photos in the dark yesterday, night photogging is a pain in the arse, and much more difficult, and i am not v. good at it-it took me a year and a half to be passable on the composition with the point and shoot, and its going to take some time to work out light and all that techincal shit on an slr.
at dennys last night with bryan and pat and danielle, i realized that i wasnt really a fanboy-or my fanboydom was clowes and crumb, argento and lewis-ie once again im a white tower snob, realizing that in dennys is a humbling experience.
today i said my morning prayers, and couldnt find myself past the line concerning trespasses, the attack shattered who i am as a christian, made me come into full awareness that a life like christ ends in crucifixion. im meeting fthr stephen-i had a panic attack with the bible study, calling and then cancelling, and then calling back and rescheduling, i went and felt uncomfortoble until i was there long enough-i am finding that i disagree with much of all of their theology, but like them as people.
matthew 3:8 was brought up again, read it.
i realized today that everyone had direction, and i was lost.
i realized everyone thot they would die when they were old, i cant imagine living after 50.

america
for kgl
It's no go the Yogi-man, it's no go Blavatsky,
All we want is a bank balance and a bit of skirt in a taxi.
macniece
son of america,
who came north
to spread love of god and self
california blonde
all that compact loveliness
sun tanned earnestness
that fun loving
yet highly fuckable
seriousness
you loved me
or played
beholden boyscout
we were found out
and you begged
forgiveness
I shrugged shoulder
and turned back
what came from there ?
someone got two kids
a wife, a split ranch
in clovis, ca
and someone
got queer theory
and the mother church
I was angry,
thought I got the
worse half,
but now I forgive you
and realize how little
you taught me about god
and how much you taught
me about everything else
