anything made by disney before 1940 (ie snow white, dumbo, fantasia, pinochio) spirited away, the gene wilder willy wonka, and the misudnerstood and easily forgotten candleshoe (for jodie foster, its comfort in cliches, and how she did all of these strange, difficult, adult work (ie taxi driver, the little girl who lived down the lane, etc etc), and then went back to make a great, fun, low key, and comforting disney movie)

i dont like scorese, as a general rule, adn the work i like of him is usually scenes featuring women. cybil shepered and jodie foster in taxi driver; liza minelli's subtle revealtions in new york new york; aida turtoru as nurse crupp in bringing out the dead; sharon stones white hot eroticism in casino, sandra berhnhard actually avoiding annoying people in king of comedy...

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (i could talk about this using high theory terms, but sometimes goign to the movies is about dark things happening in dark places) (taking of pentham 1,2,3 is one of the better directed movies of the 70s, and its breakneck pace, and its claustrophobia belong here as well)

either the lion king or the professional (ive decided i really like the lion king, mostly for its violence, and genuine menance, and its lack of misogyny, i could do without large swathes of it, but certain segments, the stampede, mufasa, the hyenas, keep getting to me) (i thot heavenly creatures was released in 1993, but it wasnt,and the two performances make the folie a deux shockingly real, without being voyueristic)

bunch of toronto hipsters, my friends and i, broke back mountain, im albertan, and i try to keep it together, despeately, but it gets worse and worse, i start sniffling, no kleenex, go to the bathroom, come back, and than the last 15 mintues, im jsut weeping, racked with tears, like someone in my family had died, and than the lgiths come up, and all of these queens come and stare at me, like i had done something gauche. growing up queer in the west, and dealing with the violence there in, combined with my lasting fear of being alone, and of being isolated in general, adn ahving to go back there though my family was in toronto, due to money and the complications of geography, hit it way to close home...

(i also wept at any of the sirk films in school, and todd haynes far from heaven, in addition to the prize winner of defiance ohio, and any larger amount of trash...i overemote in cinemas)

i would assume violence for the sake of violence, the porongraphic violence kael wrote against in dirty hairy, but i have found my self liking it's more slick forms, in hong kong, and neo hong kongs that ive watched in the last year or so means that if its pretty enough ill gobble it up...which worries me. (american procedual television, ugly, vapid, with a sour belief in the glories of the states, and performances that are somewhere left of automatic, where all sex is punished by death, is the work that i often dismiss immidately though)

they gotta love trash and art and hollywood and france and everywhere else--thats the thing, an unwillingness to see crank the same weekend as cache would be a deal breaker
