Went to a movie last night, with a new friend, and her friend. Steph I met at the josh ritter show, and eric works for nexopia. Steph is deeply enmeshed in the Edmonton art scene, which either changed significantly, required someone less jaded, or had an underground I wasn’t welcome at, because she seems deeply happy, and knows people that i dont know, christ she likes todd.

we saw factory girl, which was interesting, because the story was really well known to me, and the warhol story, i assumed was ubiqitious, obviously commerical, porny w/o being v. good, with symbols that were both glaring obvious (the silver cloud peice repersented edie, floating away or being tied with warhol; his realtivly minor homage to the mona lisa, the plane crash peices both featuring heavily) or really confusing (the most prom. work though, shown in shot after shot were the brillo boxes). there were some great scenes and shots (esp. some with illena douglas as diana vreeland and edwaard herman as the finical manager) though, and it did deserve an oscar for costume design. (not only edie, the dylan and andy costumes were perfect, esp. the oblique references to the album covers of the free wheeling and blonde on blonde)

other problems:
the idea that "doing" andy is all verbal lacunae and sad skin.
several odd scenes contrasting andys realtionship with julia warhol with edies realtionship with her father, fuzzy (ie the edie scenes were primal and opedial, edie walking into fuzxzy fucking the mother,fuzzy fucking edie, edie being sent away, the brother turning into a homosexual, both killing themselves)
the depecition of the v. nice (c/c elenor mytle(?) a semester at mcleans) silver hills as a bedlam style, as opposed to something much nicer.
the mess of cinematic trix (inc, but not limited to 8mm/16mm, b and w, sped up double time, lens that were vaselined out, etc)
badly written, horribly acted, random tits, oddly misogynst.
