the four, johns i struggle with, and lstein i just started getting his glacial surfaces a few months ago, and andy, well andy is andy, with the mix of fucking and jesus, of artifice and family, and i can always find something interesting in his work, his colour choice, everytime i see a warhol book there is something else (this week, his 70s green and pink portrait of holzer, and some party snap shots from 85 or so, of people smoking) but rberg--it was personal and historical and cerebeal, and coded of course, but i wanted to do that, to have work that competed, broke apart, were horribly moving, were erotic, and were spiritually profound.

rberg for me, was a stream i immedieatley slipped into, then drowned, his exprimental energy was never slap dash, always had an elegance of half finished puzzles.

my favourite work of his, continues to be the work of mourning made in the late 70s, the hoarfrost and the cardboard, for their decay, their performative time based elements, and for their sublime trash. its difficult to do sublime trash well.
