(i keep trying to write about Balderassi, and i mean it plays the same game as Ruscha does, in that it does v. formal, v. high wire/lingustic work, but also makes these sexy/campy/funny pop peices, so it's a joke, and it is a deep lingustic joke, and it is an immediate joke, but it is also a joke w/o the freudian anxiety of people like well, Warhol or Prince. I think that the difference b/w LA pop and NY pop ius that LA pop is unafraid of the sunshine, there is nothing ceberal about it--& the assumption is that if one is not ceberal one is not thinking--Balderassi says lots of really interesting things about the way bodies or minds or desire or informaiton or media work/travel--what words mean, what formalism does in art, but also, sometimes its animal house jokes in latin. smart w/o being cebereal, formal w/o being cold, internal w/o being insidery, decadent w/o decay (like the legendary flash fronzen corpse of disney)
There is a reason Chuck Eddy wrote about this in his metal book:
marian cottillod does that old fashion trick of trying to look decadent in dead european hotels, almost succedes.

To Whichever Officious Cunts are in Charge of This:
I am requesting help at the board of inquiry. You are seeking a lease, for me to put my investment account solely under personal control, and for documents from those accounts. I can address the problems with each of these concerns.
The first situation is the lease. As I explained to the caseworker on December, 27, 2008, I was living in an informal arrangement paying rent month by month. Now that I have the housing allowance from Ontario Works, and since I have been told that no lease, no cheque, I have been looking for places since the beginning of January. I have called 25 places that I could afford in those two weeks. 12 were still for rent, and were not limited by gender. Of those 12, only 4 were suitable, in the sense that they were clean, vermin free, had fully functioning kitchens and bathrooms, and were not unreasonably far from my support network. Of those 4, one has subsequently been taken, I am waiting for one to get back to me, and 2 will not give me a lease. For those who are living below the poverty line, housing is often informal, often month to month or other forms of sublets. No one has explained to me how exactly to get a lease from someone who is unwilling or unable to give me one. Even without this knowledge I am making my best effort to move by March 1st, at the latest.
The full bank records were sent to the address I am currently living about 9 days ago. I have been waiting to bundle the lease information with the bank information. If Ontario Works would prefer those records immediately, I can fax them, drop them off, or mail them.Or make sure a carrier pigeon flies them straight up yr overly tight asshole.
The last item is the most difficult, and I fear that my refusal will mean that my benefits will be cut off because everyone seems to really enjoy kafkaesque labyrinths, that said I will speak bluntly. I have an intense history of mental illness and cognitive dysfunction, that includes difficulty with processing formal discourses, and causes panic attacks and lack of communication with major institutions. As well, there has been clinical diagnosis for poor impulse control, difficulty planning, and basic arithmetic. The Most Holy Bryan Raymond Nielson has acted as my liaison for banks, government agencies, doctors, spitting llamas, and overly amorous wombats for half a decade. There is no fucking way that you are dragging him away from this, he won't allow it, and he has learnt all of his negoting skills from his mother, who could get the pope himself to rescined humane vitae.
Which brings me to some questions I have. I need to apply for ODSP, and was hoping to do so in February, Does Ontario Works cutting off my basic and shelter benefits affect this? In addition, I am in the middle of a job program, have a number of doctors appointments, am searching for housing, and searching for work. I have signed up for the food bank, and have called last on the place I am staying, but I still need a transit pass, and am unsure how to make that happen? Also, can you get a real job, and not live like a pimp on human suffering.

Font Show
These photographs of signs are like communicating with Toronto. Literally, they talk about the patterns of commerce, transportation, population, and politics, the neighborhoods that rise and fall, the immigrant communities that grow and move. Moving from City Center to the suburbs, I take photos of text that I find intriguing.Sometimes the font is interesting because of its decay, or its homemade crude charm, and sometimes it is interesting for its commercial power, and the design element is an important aspect of this project. I think that signage is the place where those two meet.
I think that the mark of a living city is one that pays attention to language. Toronto allows words to organically flowing through its citizens reflecting the diversity of languages, of messages, of desires, and of foundational texts.
In this spirit, I want people to be given permission to take the prints. Taking them off the wall, and bringing them to their neighborhoods, as emissaries of other cultures, and other places.
Installation Notes:I want to wallpaper the room with 4x7 drug store prints of signs, overwhelming the space with visual noise, and allowing viewers to create their own narratives.
Production Budget:
500 Artist Fee
370 Prints (1000 prints at 37 cents a print)
30 Installation Materials (Bluetak)Total: 900.

Re: Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)": Last Friday at about 2 a.m., just before last call, I was in a room full of the whole gay rainbow—bears and butches, drag queens and skinny club kids—and we all danced, and not only did we dance, but we knew every move, just like all of those dozens of fan videos on YouTube knew all the moves. Plus my sister and my mother love it, and for the first time in a while, this might be a genuinely universal single. Which is kind of worrisome, because no matter how fun it is to dance to (and it is incredibly, brilliantly entertaining to dance to), it seems to be so retrograde—sort of like Obama winning and Prop. 8 passing on the same night.

Music Row's reasemblence to a stage set should not lead one to assume that country music is made by sleight of hand, but rather that a complex and ingenious mythology underlies the industries public testimony to the simplicty, authencity and reality of the music it markets"(23)
Live on stage, Charlie Rich burnt the envolpe that told him that John Denver won the 1975 CMA artist of the year.
"It may well be that the struggle to supress country music, 'this deep sense of fear and resignation' by which it was constrained, provoked the eruption of country's deviant offspring rockabilly, and caused so many to rail against it as a threat to their liveliehoods, if not their souls.
