10. sleeping female by balthus is lolochan for western aristos, excellent persversions but not nearly as skilled or as charming as his landscape sketches, a great one here in green chalk and pencil bought in

RB Kitaj Collection (Christies)

1. its good to go to school with Freud, Bacon, Hockney and Auberbach, because they give birthday gifts in art
   
2. mostly drawings and etchings, mostly minor work
3. a auberbach head white on dirty grey, a boy peter by hockney, some nude freud etchings
   
4. the best work, and a work that went for 458k, was a freud drawing, v. early, of a shirtless bacon, he makes bacon look like an impeteous little puti, and it almsot reminds me of warhol in the line work
   
5. the most suprising is a etching by Hopper of a railroad/hotel scene, followed by a manet etching of the Execution of Maximillion
   
6. this cant be al of it, its mostly shit

Post War adn Contemporary Day (afternoon) (Christies, Prices in pounds)

1. 24% went unsold, and many lots selling at the low end of below the pre-sale estimates. (Modern Art Obsession, qouting Bloomberg)
2. Hirst, Two Banksys, w/i the first 5 images
   
3. Two Wim Devoye, one of Madonna and One of Osama, tattoees pigs, hes better then these works, but shock sells
4. Pettibone warhols, Herrings, Basquits, Condos and Sharfs, all of the lower and least interesting end of the their spectrum, all small and (in the case of herring literally) disposoable
5. Zing Xihong still sells for low 6 figures
   
6. 40 or so of the work here from mainland china, mostly selling for low 5 figures, much work below estimates, v. few break outs.
   
7. 4 Murakamis for b/w 45 and 98, including a mock up of the vuitton print
8. 1985 Harelquin judd for 284
9. the market is rewarding post modern abstraction
   
10. Wechigu Mutu, no matter how good she is, is a perfect example of exotic racism, painterly skill, and an apperance in vogue, results in inflated prices, even more so if you can include a smug reference to current poltics.

13. i keep forgetting alys can paint, aside from being one of the best conceptualists today, a small oil on canvas, with three small matches one on fire, one extingushed, and one spent, was a bargin at 24.5 (two times its low estimate)

15. someone should be buying mid career artists who have an artists artist rep, its the kind of work that will not lose money in the upcoming recession--letting a donald baechelor mixed media be bought in when the reserve cant be more than 8k is insane

Sothebys Impressionist and Modern Works on Paper, Day Sale (London, Pounds)

1. 8 of the First 10 Bought in, 60 out of 152 Total including work by Picasso (7), Giocemmit (2 red chalk still lives, one portrait), Dali, Klimt, Nolde (8 landscapes and portraits), Ferringer (3), Klee, Grosz, and Schad (an eerie almost perfect self portrait from the mid 30s)
   
2. the usual dozen schieles and klimts, one schiele male nude, black and grey, zombie like, worth anything
   
3. Two dali giraffe drawings suggest he could still suprise in the 40s

5. Two Great Northern Romantic Sunsets by Nolde for the price of one mediocre Schiele

7. I dont understand the appeal of Van Doegen, but he seems to be taken the place of Chagall

Impressionist and Modern Art Day Sale, London, Pounds

1. Renoir landscapes of Provence did well
   
2. A great scuppled drawing of a calf and a cow, by Gauguin went for 138k
3. Ferriner reminds me of Lauren Harris, aesthetically and market wise
4. Two masterpeices of Britsh Sculpture, A Moore white marble torso, and a Hepworth Bronze both 6 figures above estimate
   
5. I ask this everytime i see Picabos fromt he late 30s going for 6 figures, the critical revival of these peieces was done entirely because his work from the 20s was gone, right?
6. the day sale is really a dogs breakfast of the really good and the realy decorative

1. I dont think i will ever get sick of looking at Grosz' portraits of whores, and hsi sweetie, is doing well at 311k
2. First art history 101 peice, Janwelsky's Schokko, goes for 9m
3. Nolde Heavy WEather Clouds Drifting, 1.88m
4. Marc horse paintnig for 13.5m
5. 5 of the best Klimt drawings (they are the best b/c the cunts are splayed) all sell for mid 6 figures
   
6. Great, really delicate, early Signac, all pinks and tealls, for 3.1m
7. MAlloi Bronze Torso, better then all the other ones that went unsold, still not at the 7 figures
   
8. Cezanne Pears, Degas Dancer, both 8 figures, both could do better earier, the Cezanne is oneo f the better stilllives, early, but the colour is there
   
9. A perfect Bonnard landscape, of the sea, from his window
