Helen Frakenthaler keeps making amazing work, an almost monochrome aquatint here from 1980 has a depth of feild unheard of in printing (Frankenthaler is my no. 1 peice of evidence that Greenberg thot enough of women to fuck them, but not to rep them) (also two from This is Not A Book, a series from 1997, which means she was making viable work until her 90s)

Sotheby's Red

1. Themed Auction for Bono's AIDS charity, the ones who use sweatshop labour to make feel good t's for the gap. All works were Red, that said, some excellent peices in amongst the crap.
   
2. Biggest Prices in the auctions this season, with 11 over a million, and what I think is a new record for Banksy 1.87m , a Gursky breaking a million, a koons balloon rabbit breaking 2, (The best prices went to Hirst, including 1.8, 2.6, 2.4, 3.3, 7.15, 1.1)
   
3. That said, the best of Close's recent photo work, two nudes featuring Kate Moss, went unsold, and 3 Raushneberg Abstractions, suggesting that Collectors shot their wad early

Were some realtive deals to be held, 2 v. recent super vagianal paradiscal Browns for less than half of what you would pay for one of the cheapest Hirsts, 3 fantastic Yinka Shonibane costume peices for 165, a non cloying drawing of a child by Peyton for 55k, a new Situtation note by Holzer that usd the theme well, the rest were hedge fund orgies \

Christies Impressionist and Modern, New York

1. Lots of white flowers, some female nudes, minor provence landscapes,

4. The attempts to reserucate Pissaro's work is succedding slowly
   
5. They are selling Ferringer's xmas cards and people are buyign

7. Sonia DEluney is the only artist who has convinced me that Rugs can be art (her rug work and tapestry work sells much better then her paintings and lithos, they are actually better too)

Sothebys New York, Impressionist and Modern

1. Daumiers Skill as a cartoonist did nto extend to his work as a bronze sculptor
2. Teh more pornographic of Renoirs naked fat chicks are doing well
   
3. Maxime Valmick's Trout and Herbs, severe and chardinesque
4. Buffet still does well (the epitome of moneye'd borgie taste)
5. Moise Kisling might be the worst painter to have a decent to good sales record
   
6. 4 great Epistein busts from the early 20s, vastly underselling their worth, at b/w 6 and 20 k a peice
   
7. They are finding a collection of expat vietnamese artists, from the 20s and 30s, which sell, i have no idea to whom, they dont even work as delightfully naive folk art
