atwoods the door--its historical, with some great lines and small details, her reading is more obvious here, and it seems less sui genrisis, a rewrite of cavafy's waiting for the barabrians is esp. effective in the updating of the source. it seems less angry, and resigned, her voice (her literal, gravelly, upper canadian clipped tone vocal performances) is present, much more present then almost any other poet working today, but for the first new work of verse in more then a decade, and with the morning of the burned house being soo good, this is a disappointment.
