I am sorry if my blog did not make sense . I meant i was heading to the University for a concert. I got in on Claireview with a full train. But there was a hockey game at the Cloiseum and the train was empty for half my trip. The concert itself had 20 people while across town the hockey game had 1000 times that. Sometimes how far you are away from other people is made beyond clear .
The concert Itself was magnifcent. There was a whole new instrument and a midi manipulater and a jazz master playing counterpoint to a tape and a disklavier . It was an maazing hybrid a way to find the warmth and richness of acoustic instruments and the randomness, automation, and mainuplitve powers of technology. As well it featured an instrument i had never heard of.
Its called the Axio and it is roughly cruciform . On the left hand is what looks like a palm pilot attached to a joystick. It moves left,right,up and down. It needs to be used with great delicacy and can control timbre and direction of sound . On the right is a mini synth. with about 16 keys that produces acoustic rather then elctronic sound. Over the Shoulder like a Cello Fret is another keyboard that thru an apple program manipultes the sounds and adds new ones. By direction i mean there are eight speakers set up in a nontognal room so the sound becomes immersive.
The last bit was a 20 minutes jam between a bass clairnet , trumpet , the axio and a midi system . The music was played, anayzed and disscaoted at the same time . Sorry i did not have the oppurtuinty to write this last night. Geoff emailed ne slightly confused
