(speaking of taking comfort from former enemies, this 6 page Fukayama story starts exocratied Bush (the neo-con establishment's attitude towards him know seems to be oops, we really couldnt control him), talks about neo-con precedent (including Daniel Patrick Monayahin, who apparently spent his early years as a trot,i need to spend more time thinking about him--his status as a kingmaker, his ability to play right against left, his reluctant work helping get Hilary elected to the senate, and his writing in the 50s/60s...its someone to point out, unless Daniel Patrick is different then Daniel, then well never mind) wanders into liable (see his one line on the brilliant Anne Norton, who is much smarter, and much less of an ideolouge then her critics think, and whose status as a punching bag for the new right, mostly comes from her being a woman willing to say nasty (but true) things against great men--read her books, esp. Leo Strauss and the Politics of the American Empire, published by Yale, and get back to me) and pseduo-defence of the indefencible (see his actually believing that Leo Strauss didnt say anything about current politics/statecraft), becomes self aggrandizing (See how people just didnt understand his v. v. good books), contradticts itself (this might not be fair, but saying bad things about bush, and then telling us that he and his travelling circus, including condi, have become more reasonable, seems a little batshit), and then in the last page, page and a half, is a wise, clever, well read, hopeful, realist, and distinctly scholarly discussion of soultions and problems to (recent?) questions of the state, defense, and multi-national co-operation. There are actually parts I agree with (b/w this and agreeing with large portions of benedicts first encylical, either the cons are becoming more reasonable, or im becoming a con)
