Excellent Things about the Moravians:

The Moravian Covenant in its original form was adopted by the Moravian Church at Herrnhut, Saxony, as the Brotherly Agreement on May 12 of the year that marked the Church's spiritual renewal, 1727. The Covenant was not intended to be a “discipline” forced on the congregation from above, but rather an “agreement” into which the members entered voluntarily. This pervades the new Covenant, which in itself is only a recommended form, to be voluntarily accepted by each of the local congregations before it becomes effective for their congregational life.

6 When seeking guidance we find that the simplest expression of Christian living is contained in the earliest of Christian confessions, “Jesus Christ is Lord.” This implies that obedience is due Him as the absolute Ruler and Lord of our lives. Not only His teachings (e.g., Matthew 5-7) but, even more, the example of His life (Philippians 2:5; Ephesians 4:20) provide an understanding of the obedience that He desires. Although the early Church, guided by the Spirit of Jesus, did not develop a code covering all issues, it offered guidance in various areas of Christian living (e.g. Colossians 3:1-46; 1 Peter 2:11- 3:12; Ephesians 4:1-6:20).

27 Though giving our loyalty to the state of which we are citizens, we do recognize a higher loyalty to God and conscience (Acts 5:29).

28 For the sake of the peace which we have with God, we earnestly desire to live peaceably with all people and to seek the peace of the places where we dwell.

We will not hate, despise, slander, or otherwise injure anyone. We will ever strive to manifest love towards all people, to treat them in a kind and friendly manner, and in our dealings with them to approve ourselves upright, honest, and conscientious, as becomes children of God. Together with the universal Christian Church, we have a concern for this world, opening our heart and hand to our neighbors with the message of the love of God, and being ever ready to minister of our substance to their necessities

32 Christian: We recognize no distinction between those who are one in the Lord. We believe that God in Jesus Christ calls his people out of “every race, kindred, and tongue,” pardons them beneath the Cross, and brings them into a living fellowship with himself. We regard it as a commandment of our Lord to bear public witness to this and to demonstrate by word and deed that we are one in Christ.
Problematic Things
..We regard Christian marriage as a lifelong covenant before God which requires the continuous loyalty of the man and the woman toward each other...

7 Living the Christian life depends not only on our own effort but upon God our Father, who in Jesus Christ accepts us as heirs of God (Galatians 4:4-7) and strengthens and sustains us (Philippians 4:13).

We will support, according to our ability, the financial needs of the local congregation, the District, the Province, and the Unity. We will consider the support of the benevolent causes of the Moravian Church, both at home and abroad, as a privilege, an opportunity, and a responsibility.
We will also recognize the support of worthy causes outside of the Church as part of our stewardship.

15 We will endeavor to settle our differences with others in a Christian manner (Galatians 6:1), amicably, and with meditation, and, if at all possible, avoid resort to a court of law (Matthew 18:15-17).

19 We will have fellowship, in all sincerity, with children of God in other Christian churches, and will carefully avoid all disputes respecting opinions and ceremonies peculiar to one or another church. In this fellowship we will cooperate with other churches in the support of public charities or Christian enterprises, which have a just claim upon us as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

33 Universal: Because we hold that all people are God's creatures (Genesis 1:27) and that he has made of one blood all nations (Acts 17:26), we oppose any discrimination based on color, race, creed, or land of origin and declare that we should treat everyone with love and respect.

From Wikipedia:
The Moravian Church declared in 1974 that gays and lesbians were full members of the Christian community. In 2002, the Northern Provinical Synod placed a moratorium for the time being on further decisions about homosexuality. Currently, the questions of marriage and ordination are unresolved.

This is the 1974 resoultion:
RESOLVED: that the Moravian Church reaffirm its open welcome to all people by specifically recognizing that the homosexual is also under God's care ,. and be it .further

RESOLVED: that the Moravian Congregations will extend an invitation to all persons to join us in a common search for wholeness before God and persons ,. and be it further

RESOLVED: that as Christians, recognizing our common sinfulness and the miracle of God's grace, accepting God's pardon, and together striving to help .free each other .from bonds of fear, despair, and meaninglessness, fitting us for lives of commitment, responsibility, witness, service, and celebration in God's Kingdom, we will share in this venture as children of God and brothers and sisters in Christ toward wholeness.

This one is 20 years later:
RESOLVED: All segments of the Moravian Church (provincial, district, regional, congregation, individual) be encouraged to continue in prayer as individuals and as groups for openness to the leading of the Holy Spirit with regard to our understanding of the issue of homosexuality.

WHEREAS: The 1974 Northern Provincial Synod of the Moravian Church affirmed the interest of the Moravian Church in accepting and ministering to homosexual persons, therefore be it

RESOLVED: The 1994 Northern Provincial Synod reaffirms the Homosexuality Resolution of the 1974 Resolutions of the Moravian Church Northern Province on Social Issues ...(As noted above) RESOLVED: Although the Moravian Church is not agreed on the question of the acceptability of homosexual practice, congregations are urged to make available support systems for people whose lives are affected by homosexual issues and to encourage individuals to seek appropriate training to lead such groups; and be it further

RESOLVED: "Certain basic human rights and civil liberties are due all persons. We are committed to support those rights and liberties for homosexual persons. We see a clear issue of simple justice in protecting their rightful claims. " (from the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 1992) Moreover, we condemn acts of violence and coercion against persons who are homosexual or are perceived to be homosexual.

RESOLVED: The 1994 Northern Provincial Synod affirms the intention of the Provincial Elders' Conference, Northern Province, to develop balanced educational materials on homosexuality for use in congregations in their quest for understanding on this issue.

this is 2002:
The Moravian Church, Northern Province Synod again spoke in 2002 when a partial report was adopted leaving the matter of interpretation to the Provincial Elders' Conference, which acts as "the executive board of the province."

RESOLVED: The 2002 Synod of the Moravian Church, Northern Province shall recommend full participation {membership, activities, and lay leadership) in the congregation for all persons, regardless of sexual orientation; and be it further

RESOLVED: Every member of the Moravian Church shall be urged to pray that the Holy Spirit will guide our understanding of the issues pertaining to sexual orientation and direct us all to our unity in Christ.

RESOLVED: The 2002 Synod of the Northern Province shall recognize that persons who are homosexual can be members of our church because they are children of God and seek to know God's grace which is freely given to all people who have faith in God; and be it further

RESOLVED: Homosexual individuals shall be supported and affirmed by being allowed to celebrate their lives as individuals and/or couples completely within the bounds of the church and under the grace which our Creator imparts to all persons ,. and be it further

RESOLVED: The church shall continue to enter into dialogue in a Christian manner with homosexual persons in order to understand their lives and their spiritual walk.

also:
Our basic documents such as "The Covenant for Christian Living" and "The Moravian Motto" honor an individual's freedom of conscience. Therefore, when the church speaks on a social issue it does not bind its members, congregations, clergy, or even its employees. Rather, in speaking on a social issue, the church informs its members and its community context. It means the church believes that a particular issue is so important that we have discussed it and made a recommendation.

(i could do close readings, but i wanted to get together a list of primary documents before i did that, for churches i want to spend time thinking with, right now the list is

anglican
methodist
society of friends
morvian
some lutheran congreations

i find it signifacant that 3/5 of them are heavily peitiest, and the ones that arent, have had theologians consider the implications of pietism strongly)
