tradtionally when same gendered sexual behaviour is in fasion, ideas of polymorphus, free floating sexual and gender roles are in fashion. (cf florence, 1490s; london,1660s,1890s;berlin, 1920s; new york; 1890s, 1920s, 1970s; los angeles, 1940s). now, in the west, homosexaulity is again in fashion but it isnt the polymorphus, unfettered sexuality. it has engaged with the structures of both clegy and the state--so it has to be defined as tangible as possible. that said, the tangibility means that there are two problems

1) the idea of sexuality as a stable and explicit thing, as opposed to a seires of neogitions or processes as it has been historically, means that the enlightment rhetoric of personhood is dragged into it, and im not sure it belongs.
2) queer folx (ie people who think of sexuality as instable, or time/place orientated)are unfairly forced to engage in fights for liberation using other peoples terms and conditions.

to explicitly make this about same gendered marriage/blessings--instead of radically decentralizing the conversation, and talking about how sexuality can be viewed as a blessing and a gift from god, we have placed (and imho created/punished) an other.
