t it took me a while to get over my obsession with paper, with making prints, with framing things in terms of paper...i kept thinking about this in realtion to a work by sally mckay. at first i loved it for the negative black space, for how it collapses to the middle, the punctum of the giraffes neck or how the lion stares out at the viewer.

there are other things, the mysticism that occurs when order is created, the similar visual obsessions that we share, including the peaceable kingdom, blake, s/f kitsch, and also how "real" (ie photographic) and the "fake" (ie drawn or painted).

but when i had lunch with her a couple of weeks ago, she told me that it did not come from scissors, i thot that it came from paper, and was scanned, but it came digitally, and has never been printed, so it was a combined reproduction of a set of reproductions, intended as a sketch, to be shown on the web, as a predecessor' for a larger installation work. but that one image has an added profundity, by the empheraml nature of the web, and also the kind of updating of the future that occurs here.
