reasons why britian said no to the euro:

1) They like thinking themselves closer to Americans
2) They belive that they can surrive as a major world power without Europe.
3) They have had a negative realtionship to the Contient since time immerorial.
4) They still have an island culture, that is more then a little isolationist.
5) Blair is a not so closeted tory.
6) The Tories are deeply frightened that internationalism will destroy Queen and Country.

the problem is that they need to, the only way that we can mantain a balance of power and not capitulate to Pax Americana is another side.

thus a strong and central europe.
Look at Germany and France, who all of these 6 could apply to, with names and parties changed- they did not lose culture or nationhood when the Euro came calling.

(speaking of germany, berlin is broke and tax and spend may turn into slash and burn)
