I have come out of hiatus for this link pictures of i think almost or a bit more then 100 new york buildings.

mostly sky scrapers, it reminds me how ugly and useless and almost facist is is, in that it dictates use.
the link missed a couple of the better ones, esp. the Lever Building, where the hygenic obsession of perfect glass and steel makes sense, and the seagrams building, which manages to make phallic towers and empty plazas riveting, the tension b/w present and absent spaces stunning.

also it introduced me to William Lescaze, who was one of the american precursors to all this :



see the brownstone on the far left, fuctional, aesthic, venacular ?
he knocked it down to make a "machine to live in"

but i would be lying if the austerity of Lescaze didnt appeal to me, much as the un architechture of the daj hammerskeld (sp) plaza does (though thru use of material, esp. travertine, betrays those intentions)

(on a more personal note, i think that the site will be used in this way, as a news/links/seedbed etc.
