most poetry is published in little magazines, academic or semi academic journals, small presses or by the poets themselves, which makes it difficult to treat it acdemically, is not anthologized, is lost among a small cult.

we as poets have to do this for ourselves, buy chapbooks and journals, submit to the smaller magazines, do it for love and maybe money will follow.

the history of poetry in the 20th century is of this sort... pound and elliot in egoist and criteon, hd in imagiste, riding and olson, wcws first two books, wyndham lewis's blast, o haras lunch poems, the beats (everything from black tablet to evergreen review and city lights ) , the black mountain school, berryman, blackburn, it goes on and on, to recent devolepments in zine and web culture.

The UK Poetry Library has put everything on the web in a searchable format, is an extension of this instinct.
