these are the lies a killer tells himself so he can sleep at night, these are akin to i was only following orders or we only need five men to invade a country.

and if i was the mother of a soilder, i would yell at him, screech in his face, spit in his eye.
i would tell him that such noble and poetic speech does not save, does not justify.

i would say that no amount of rhetoric makes the bombing of marketplaces and the lying about weapons of mass destruction ok.

i would tell him that his war was not even noble (if a war can be), that he was too smart and self aware to believe such pure bullshit, and quit playing boy and go home.

and then i would force peter turnleys photos on him, and ask if he really thought it was worth it.

look at these, and then tell me to my face that treating these people like waste, like the great american trash, is unavoidable.

tell me not to become angry, tell me that we liberated the iraqi people.

look at the mothers with out sons-1000s of them and tell me about surgical strikes and how the awfulness of conflict cannot be avoided.

sure i dont care if you want to carry the big gun, but for the grace of god do not romanticize it, and do not expect me to sit idol and watch it being treated as a moral nessecity.
