Byatt goes on to mention that one of the peices of research she did for Orlanda, was visit Vita Sackville West at the ancestral Sackville home, Knole in Kent, and saw the portrait hall. She then took photos of Sackville not only as a Lely, but as her realtivies, both male and female. Then Orlando amongst other things becomes a pyschic reclaiming of materlineal lines, and a historgraphy of family aesthetics...
