speaking of localizing and the new topographers mark brautigam's work on wisconsin is isolated, rural, witty, brilliantly composed, deep, and has a kind of severity that is often lacking in similar work. he is a master of colour, but not the geewhizflashbang colour one expects , dark woods, bright snow, grey skies, he also manages to pack an enormous amount of visual information into relativley small peices, w/o making the work seem crowded or chaotic. hes really really good.
