I am reading the Ishmael Reed edited anthology from Totem to Hip Hop, a genuine multicultural work of poetry in english and which includes everything from Robert Frost to Lucille Clifton to Tupac Shakur (which i found had close ties to 18th century carpe diem poems)...it taught me that the first european lit in NA was in spanish (though quebcois french may come close) among other things.

Then reading langauge hat has a post concerning a couple of new anthologies about the langauges of early america. Only 40 per cent of the nation spoke English in 1776 (here) and earlier then that five contients (africa, europe, south america, asia, and itself) gave birth to a polyglot unknown before in human history--they came from slavery, expulsion, hope and colonolism to teach america.

now 87 per cent of americans speak english as a mother tounge, and the true lang. of america from aboriginal tounges to creoles, patois's and dialects are dying.

Until recently the americans in gautenama(sp) bay were only judge and jury, now with more prison cells, new interrgation units and a permeant dention to soon follow, we are wondering when exceutcioner(sp) will be next:

When i was in the hospital, the nurses gave out comfort smokes to calm those hardest caught by stress, delusion, mania or depression. Ted Hoderich, the canadian philospher, has talked postivley about the ethical implications of the Palestine terrorist campaigns--for this his book about the larger implications of 9/11 has been pulled by its German Publishers. Although I could make the arguement that considering Israels policies in the middle east would cause some liberation work to be done, i would argue against any violence, and esp. homocide/suicide bombing in public areas.

In the last 6 months I have found Patrick and Bryan. Look, I am a major emotional fuck up, I have a bunker, and no one goes down. People leave, and because people leave, people are not let in. with in days, bryan got the key to the bunker, and pats further down there then anybody since glenys. Its not comfortable, in fact it is deeply painful, and I have tried every trick in the book (cliché) to manage to push them away. I have been surly,angry, combative, passive agreesive, maniplutive, petulant. I have put my shell over my head and I have spit nails. They are not leaving. I do not know how I feel about this.

As well, aside from this newness, Danielle encountered sesmic changes in how I viewed the world. Sexually, spiritually, politically, professionally and personally, I had become a different person, and a person that I am still trying to parse and identify.

So there is me, in this sensitive, raw, newness with two people that I was pushing towards and away with equal vigour, with a church that I was fighting with, with a god that I was angry at, with my queerness entering a stage that I could not identify. All I wanted her to do was forget the history, burn it. I would make an effort, but really not much of one.

Something happened in the middle of that plan(one of the reasons why I belive in god, is that every story has a place where you can say that, it suggests as much as you try to control the universe, the universe really doesn’t take direction well, natures a bitch goddess.) What happened was Patrick and Bryan fell head over heels for her (cliché), not only as someone they would like to fuck, but someone they would like to love. (love?)

I don’t understand it, don’t pretend to. But I didn’t want them to pursue the romantic angle, for a huge variety of reasons. They made a pact that made her seem like property, though I do not think this was the intention at all. It worked for a while, and then something happened.

Bryan and Danielle have become a closed set. Time together with them is time together with a couple and I have no idea how conscious or delibrarte it is. Patrick told me that if that couplehood had happened then he doesn’t think that he could deal with it, and he would no longer be friends with bryan. If that couplehood happened I couldn’t deal with it and I would disengage with him as well.

Bryan has settled things with pat, but I was so angry last night, I shut down. I am still angry, and am unsure why.
We talked until the sun came up, and we settled things sort of, but things are still in jeopardy.

(the other thing that bryan and I talked about was sean and politics. He does not have a mutlpicity of discourses, and I do. Talking to him is limited and frustrating, because he refuses to discuss what I am talking about in the terms that I am using.
