went to beast today, lovely dinner (sweetbreads, elk, choco mousse, a tough italian red), with the boys, and i realised like i do every couple of weeks, how blessed i am to have them in their life, and it must be strange to see us in public. also the guy in the next table was one of those douches who tried to seduce his date by talking about the wine list and his amazing day in tuscany

The problem in the west is not western al ienaiton so much as it is western lallucination. Our progress in deficit reduction and in other areas that appeal to those of a conserative na ture has to be gotten across and the reform parrt has to be confornted... (811)

US Supreme Court allows for the possiblity that the pope would be required to testify in sex abuse cases that occured w/i the US--not going to happen, but it dos suggest that the us supreme court is not as enamoured with religious power as it once was.

Casting Aspersions
As someone who has recently self-diagnosed as having Asperger’s, I found Kim Pittaway’s “Confidence Game” (May) quite upsetting.
I have spent the better part of my life trying to figure out why I am so different from almost everyone I meet. Psychiatrists have mislabelled me add, ocd, or “physiologically and emotionally hypersensitive, eccentric, and ego-centric enough that the eccentricity doesn’t bother you, but otherwise fine” — an actual quote, and basically a diagnosis of Asperger’s. When I finally came across the Wikipedia page on the disorder, it was like finding the Holy Grail, and I immediately took steps to have an official diagnosis performed. After all that work, to be lumped in with con artists was quite frustrating — another perfect example of neurotypicals misunderstanding us.
I take particular exception to the placement of Anthony Easton’s comment that some Aspies “have no social skills because [they] fucking play fourteen hours of World of Warcraft a day.” It’s not what Easton is saying that upsets me; spending this much time on one pursuit is characteristic of Asperger’s, after all. Rather, I object to the way Pittaway used this quote to support the idea that a self-diagnosis is a cop-out.
But the article’s conclusion — “Just because you’re Aspie doesn’t mean you’re not an asshole,” also care of Easton — took the cake. Many Aspies have been so persecuted that they have given up on trying to integrate into society. Does this make them assholes? All in all, the piece was a sensationalist, misleading piece of crap. I am appalled that you published it, and you should be ashamed.

canada--that loosest of confederations, who is mostly defined by an intricate set of resentments, half agreed to comprmises, and failed conslidations, and who was born from one empire, and become tethered to another...and yet, in the midst all of at, kind of sort of functions most days...today, i will remember the execution of Louis Riel, the Red River Rebellion, the Winnipeg General Strike, the Chinese Head Tax, WWII internment camps, the Resdential schools, the Komagata Maru, the bullying of Newfoundland, the copper disks, numbered and not named on Inuit's in Nunuvat, and last week...today, i will remember the kindess to charles ord, Lester B Pearson's work with the UN, the Hutterites moving north after the Dakotas german racism, Tommy Douglas and that peculiar Saskatchwan socialism, that Nunvat is now the largest Indigenous land claim settlement in the world,the fairly open borders in the last 25 years, that Mulroney did not manage to completely dismantle our saftey network, and that we keep trying to remember and to seek forgiveness. Pray for our remembering Kateri...
