so i got the prints made for the farm show, and the frames, b/w the two and the hardware, the total costs will most likely exceed 450...i have no idea how to price these things. because i never actually make money off of them, so do i go for the stars and say 100/ea or do i barely break even and say 40? & remedy is so big, 10 8x10s look like they will be swallowed up in the place, how do i use that to my advantage.

edd hurt talks about the cultural implications of big and rich. their first album i thot was really interesting in how it managed to make camp objects seem deeply earnest, and vice versa, and its radically fractured musical signifers, but they ave become more sentimental, less radical, more steady in what they like, the last album was a disaster. hurt disagrees with me, but the article is well worth reading.

three thots about the new harry potter
1) harry dies, goes to the underworld, and rises to fight the final battle. except its not hte underworld, its a cleaner version of the kings cross railway station in london, where he has a long discussion with dumbledore, who answers all of his questions, and defends himself, like YHWH for a touchy feely blairite britian.
2) the final battle feels like one for a cozy and domesticated britian, you knew that was the case w. lewis, but his pacing suggested something real and iconic was at stake. nothing feels like that here (
3) the whole fucking thing is laced with death, but it doesnt really seem real, its all that move so quick pulp serial stuff so that the adventure matters, and death doesnt seem to. the only one t hat gets burried is doddy.
4) there is a whole section that is so catholic blood magick and other sections that seem to be code for the third reich, or the recent war on terror.
5) she is trying to write for the eventual 170m feature, but the work is bloated, so i dont know how she is going to tie the set peices in at the end.
6) speaking of cozy set peices, the book endso n a train station, 19 years later, harry married to ginny, hermonie married to ron , sending their 3 children each off to hogwarts, fleur and bill have a child at the middle of the book, and one of the set peices has them interupting a wedding, while another is about skeeeters tell-all bio about dumbdledore pulling a rosemary kennedy on his sister, except w/o the instution bit.

6) speaking of cozy set peices, the book endso n a train station, 19 years later, harry married to ginny, hermonie married to ron , sending their 3 children each off to hogwarts, fleur and bill have a child at the middle of the book, and one of the set peices has them interupting a wedding, while another is about skeeeters tell-all bio about dumbdledore pulling a rosemary kennedy on his sister, except w/o the instution bit.
7) the thing about lots of english childrens fiction, is that the villian is seductive, the only time that lewis seems to understand sex is when he is writing the white witch, or the queen in alice in wonderland, etc the problem is that voldemart is just faceless and evil, all skill and no scheming personality.

No Advertisements, No Outing, Make Sense, and Address The Writing (not the writer).
new comment policy on ryans blog, make sense allows him to erase anything he disagrees with, and no outing allows him not to own his words, though he actively attacks other writers and artists, and the assumption that one can understand art w/o knowing at least some about the authour. (when he gives me shit for comment modding on my blog, when i have no problem at all allowing any non spam comment and encourage all comers)
apparently i dont understand modernism, and i was kind of thinking about that, when at kdays, we saw the women in the fur bikini, we see every year, she is painted with great care, touched up, maintained, an exquisite level of craftsmenship, and an understanding of her narrative is present.
i think of kdays, in general, and the women in fur bikini, as an explicit rejection of modernist aesthetics. or to put it another way, i cannot imagine living a life where there is just one aesthetic expereince. i dont trust people who's aesthetics only allow one narrative, one kind of narrative, who think they are going in one direction.
the painting of tht women, goes thru 50 states, 10 provinces, she sees all, like a h ridder haggard villian, and she welcomes me, when i go back to pay tribiute. i want her to be present in my life, as much as i want photos to be present, or installations. i want to live in a world where bonnard, de kooning, etty, penthouse, the girl in the fur bikini, and chez peirre can tell me what i need to know about straightboy lust, where felix gonzales torres, kdays, buddhist sand mandalas tell me about embrabillity and loss.
its like the netitche qoute, which seems to undergird modernism, that which doesnt kill me makes me stronger, i dont want to be strong, i want to be weak, tender, and small.
(apparently i dont understand modernism though, and he has kept the rhetoric up as opposed to sitting down with me, and actually schooling me about his definings.)

when he fucked danny kaye in the security room at idylewilde. in the movies: Clash of the Titans, Boys From Brazil, or Marathon Man
4) Describe a famous location from a movie that you have visited (Bodega Bay, California, where the action in The Birds took place, for example). Was it anything like the way it was in the film? Why or why not?
walking about vancouver has this really post-geography quality, where most buildings or vistas remind one of endless bad television, movies of the week, hollywood cheapsters, commercials, etc. when ever i stumbled onto a production there, no one seemed excited (esp the scenes around the marine building when fantastic four was shot.) it was its exact opposite of a famous location or memorable location. same thing with toronto, except i saw romero shoot in the sky cloud garden near the bay building downtown, on adelaide, and his use of the blank cleanness of the downtown core subverted that instinct.

Mexicali Rose, for its v. early performance, with abuse, sex, gambling, adultery, and a smoldering, horribly erotic performance, this seems sexier now, then almsot anything since, and it was done in 1929.

Dazed and Confused, which managed to get good to excellent performances from a variety of people who have proven they just cant act, including affleck, mcconaughey, and jason london.

Ratatouille. Because I like pixar movies, and was interested in it formally.

the omen, lolita, the bad seed, pretty poison, kids, gummo. it reasserted my assumption that children were dangerous, frightening creatures that could cause serious damage if allowed any autonomy. i didnt want any.

I changed my mind after seeing the photos from abu gharib. There were apparently 2000 photos of Abu Gharib, would the extra 1900 provide us with any insights—or would it have proven that Sade, and Passolini were right, that human beings descend to the level of degradation that the state allows (Watching the scenes of Matt Damon wrestling in mud, naked, while being pissed on, as an a initiation rite for the Skull of Bones, and by extension, the CIA, in Robert De Niro's Good Shepherd, an argument could be made, not allows, but is founded on.)

Top Gun. Like the Criterion's Armageddon, it would include discussions of how the pentagon was involved, making of docs, commentaries from the film makers, and essays from critics. I would also like to have commentary from the actors, esp. Tom Skerritt and Anthony Edwards. Ideally, it would also include both the scene from Talk to Me with QT and the Will Young video that parodies it.
20) Name a performance that everyone needs to be reminded of, for whatever reason
Elizabeth Taylor's 60s run, including Secret Ceremony, Cleopatra, and Butterfield 8, including Cleopatra. Movies that are dismissed as silly, are some of the most iconic, post verbal performances. I keep thinking about how she uses her body, and how she costumes her body, and how those skills have been subsumed to people who talk and make tiny gestures have become the example of execllent acting. It's the same situation with Angelina Jolie, who's sheer fuckability, parodic domesticity, and aggression in Mr and Mrs Smith was the best performance of the year.
