two comments on nashville scene:

Two comments on Nashville Scene, including one that continues my defense of Luke Bryan:
Critics' underrating of Luke Bryan suggests a fear of working-class pleasure, or at least an idea that working-class pleasure cannot be sophisticated. It might be dumb, but it is unironic, self-aware and incredibly well-crafted dumb. Anthony Easton

The video for Miranda Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart" is what would happen if Douglas Sirk was born and raised south of the Mason-Dixon. The music itself is angry, hysterical and deeply in control. The irony of a song so exquisitely ordered arguing in favor of chaos is a central part of Lambert's skill and charm. Anthony Easton
