i will write more about brokeback mountian later, but when i saw it on the big screen, it had a a huge effect one me, at cumberland, ray, colleen and pat watched it w. me, at the final scenes, in the last 20 minutes or so, the claustraphobia, the lack of options, the desire denied, the love and affetion becoming simple in its refusal, the claustrophobia of societal expectations and being a prarie queer myself, lonley and looking for a love that i am afraid i will never have it, i broke down, weeping, sobbing, racked w. tears--and i thot to myself, as the hip toronto crowd was streaming around me, that sirk (and his antcendents) had the same afect on women, for the same reasons...and was reminded that movies are often not about what is on screen but what is in us, away from looking...
