one of the best written, most vital books, ive read in recent memory, read it in sf class, with ray, adn aside from the radically new ways of handling information, bodies, machines, etc, the new metaphors keep popping up, last night, i was waiting, about midnight, on a train platform with john, and the tungsten lights of street lamps, the sodium lights of stadiums, and the immenient snow, turned the sky into the perfect television blankness...

a book about power, language, pyschogeographical landscape, queer sex, and ennui, more of a kind of focculadian rakes progress, and difficult to read, but gorgeous. i think i would have included aye and gommorah instead. actually, the thing is, i found dhalgren an incredibly hard book to read, and it dragged, and so i wonder if me completeting it, etc was an effect of its novelty and as a reward for my endurance
