this is going to be a long one.
pink helmets in front of you....

new template--got sick of the green writing, i lost the links, so i will have to add that--archives on the bottom, which makes it cleaner.

anne truitt sentienal 1978

7 foot column, white on beige, with a band of blue and red on the bottom 6 inches.

blue and red being the tradtional colours for people who did sentinals, and truitt being really litearal in the connection b/w title and colour in the rest of her work...(ie cataylid is green, ocean wall is blue, picket is white, etc) so why the signifying colours so basically non essential? (i dont think i like truitt, brilliant writer, but i dont think i like her art, but then anything with dimensions so fucking large is (i mean its meant to tower over you, its size to almnost intimidate you...)

agnes martin rose 1964
acrylic, pencil, ink, canvas

its a busy one for her, which means the grid is really close and their are more colour then there usually are (four), and it hums--her work always hums, and its of course lovely, and spirtual, and the catalog entry on this work talks about her mediative holiness, and her work from the mid 60s, should be her best work (i make a point for mid90s, and the stuff done near her death--and i dont like her painted work as much as her prints and drawings--and she pretty much autmatically kicks me up to god)

the best thing about this one though, is that it reminds me so much of those super microscope close ups of clorphyll (sp) (i wonder if i am becoming bored of agnes or her critical reception) (i love her, and ive been in reveries before,,,)

met up with d, in from toronto--gave me new bag, comics, catalogs, air guitar, october, etc etc...we walked around, looked at galleries, bought comics...fun!

comics i bought
ed the happy clown--strange, surreal, freudian, obsessed with shit, and ritual humilation, i think that its some of the best work of brown, and i wish that it was more famous then the self serious HISTORICAL nonesense of louis reil, which i thot was basically a hagrogriphy done by someone who didnt understand god.

a (first name) ngui about a man giving birth to a pig, strange and transgressive, like robert munch gone all grim--good paper, well constructed, too expenisve.

Don James mosquito--BUY THIS NOW, NOT YESTERDAY, NOW. small, intense, abstract, non narrative, beautiful, well drawn, horribly noble, good if not great use of white space, beautiful, transcedently beautiful.

the cute manifesto--its werid that considering that this one was supposed to be about how drawing doesnt matter, jimmy k does his most formally innovative, emotially resonant, skilled, well crafted, drawing for drawings sake, sublime, anti cute work--and how the writing used to be so good, the best thing about the books, and now the writing is medicore, at best.

superfuckers--throw away jokes, kind of naughty, juvilenelle, but i lose myself in him drawing trees. (which was the best thing about cute--that and pansies, dandelions)

got a book out of the library about contempary art at moma, and there is some neat stuff there, including this:

not exactly this one, but one like this one, for droog, who does brilliant work anyways

so they are like this, but with a more circualr shape.

and a slew of brilliant louise borgeious drawings--which reminds me, do you know what they have done with hr giant sculptour of a spider mother, mamon:

made it a cafe canopy

saw dukes--well written, well acted, placed some obstructions, explained things that needed to be explained, good fun, some chaos--not brilliant but good fun, which most of the critics dint seem to understand.

talked to ray for about an hour which is something that i have not done in a long time,

been taking ltos of polorids lately--of:
garden house
tulip stalk and rock
pine cones and branches
condos
peeling paint
flowers
pick ups
chimeys
windows
firestone tire company sings
the brant hotel sign (red, w. a lark)
golf carts
wal mart carts (q: why are you taking a foto of that. a:b/c its beautiful)
telephone lines
road
Royal Canadian Legion, and flag
Hobo grafitti
garage
air stream
airplane weather vane
turqoise fringed umbrella
jonquils
more trees
etc

should i send todd 4k words on Brad Pasley.
go over to d's blog and look at the cloud pictures

(saw today, a purple and blue intense cloud portrait, they had this amazing colour, dusky indigoy blue, 4ft sq. and then the other a violety purple, 3x4--and they all had stirations, to indicate movement, so they were sort of comicy, but the colour was really amazing, unreproducable. the artist and the currators called them zen but the intensity of the colours, and the sheen (walnut oil varnish, a 500 yr old trick (cf stilllives from the low countries, ca 1490s) really thot of american sources--for example, warhol shadows, some of rauschenberg later collages, the ruscha's elephant/bison printpaintigns from the mid 80s, but all of thsese and none of these--almost unique)

also saw ashley, we will have lunch tomorrow i think, i miss him, lost this number and bought a bat puppet.

speaking of colour--tis harvest, and the colours are fucking popping--the canola, the skies, the wheat, the light on white, red or silver barns, flax in the fields, grass, whispering aspens, etc etc
