all shall be well all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well julian of norwich

Hughes was a brooding Yorkshireman, who by all accounts possessed extraordinary sexual magnetism, and he too was burning with literary ambition. He and Plath spotted each other right away and, following some shared, unspoken script, proceeded to behave like characters right out of D. H. Lawrence. The movie actually underplays the strangeness and ferocity of what happened: he kissed her hard; she kissed back and then bit him on the cheek, drawing blood and leaving, as he later wrote, "a swelling ring-moat of tooth-marks"; he yanked off her hairband, snatched her silver earrings and, pocketing them like trophies, stalked away. Four months later they were married.
