buwlyer lytton prize this year is announced--two problems i still have

a) lytton was actually a pretty solid and interesting writer, in that edwardian firbank overwrought kind of way, and his work really should be looked at more solidly.
b) bad good writing is good writing, the care and attention to how it is constructed, the vigour and innovation in imagery, the solid comic timing, all marks this as pretty high qaulity...bad writing is accidental writing (look at annual reports, some pornography, television sitcoms, summer blockbusters, most american news magazines and papers, superhero comics, the stuff you can write without paying attention to writing it)
